Rochelle’s photo image this week is of a slice of wholesome bread with a heart shape carved out from the centre of the slice. Most intriguing. Here’s my 100 word story.
Favourite Toast
” Here’s your favourite love-heart toast darling, like Mummy makes. Don’t be sad, I’m here.
What ? Not hungry …just try some.
Where’s Mummy ? Remember we talked about it. She’s on a big adventure with friends. She’s climbing a special mountain with snow on top. Mummy’s strong, she’s climbing to the top.
Is snow slippy ? Yes it can be. She has boots with spikes.
Can snow fall on her ? It can do. You’re scared it’ll fall on Mummy ?
It’s tea-time, we can FaceTime her.”
“Hello sweetheart…so proud of you being a grownup girl helping Daddy. I’m OK…”

A lovely description of the family while the mom is away.

You’ve written about a really good Dad, tuned right in to his daughter’s needs. Through the actions and words of Daddy, you’ve made it clear that he is talking to a girl, even before you confirm this in the last line. Excellent use of ‘show don’t tell’.

Thanks for feedback- glad you liked the story. I love the challenge of ‘show not tell’.

Dear Francine,
An interesting slice of a unique family’s life. What did we do before Skype? Nicely done.
Shalom,
Rochelle

Lovely little family scene. Sounds as if Mommy is indeed the heart of the home 🙂

Thank you for your comment. Think you’re right- an actual mountain is easier , perhaps more defined .

It’s hard when a mom has to go somewhere. At least it was an actual mountain, and not the metaphorical one that signifies something more. Well done!

I agree. Maybe the actual mountain is easier to grasp than the metaphorical one ?

Facetiming from Mount Everest, maybe? Mommy has a very supportive family,

I imagined mummy being a professional climber, yes with a supportive family.
