Here’s my take on the 100 word story challenge hosted by Rochelle Wisof
Wild Aunt Nina and the Sanguine Tree
Wild Aunt Nina had a lover – Archie. She was passionate, a free spirit.
It was the 1930’s. He cheated on her and Nina found out. Mysteriously Archie disappeared without trace soon after.
One rumour was that Nina slit Archie’s throat. And worse, she buried his severed head under her garden tree. So Nina could savour his demise every day.
Visiting her place now, I can’t help myself. I see blood oozing from the heart of that tree. A lingering proof of that foul event. Can it be true ? Nina was a bit of a bohemian …..

Dear Francine,
Still bleeding after all these years? Beware of Aunt Nina.

Bit gruesome I suppose – even a bit Gothic. Thanks

Wild Aunt Nina—did she ever marry? I would think most men would avoid her like the plague!

I think you’re right – if the men had any sense !

Definitely well told if gruesome. But folks love rumors of the scary nature. Perhaps Archie knew enough to clear out but how exciting would that be?

Thank you . Let’s hope Archie knew her well enough to make his escape…

I so agree …

I agree – perhaps her attraction was her wildness ?

I saw the same thing in the prompt. Glad I didn’t mess with Gran Nina!

Do you remember that poem about a woman who planted her lover’s head in a pot of basil ?! A bit of inspiration there.

I don’t, but I’m intrigued to go and find it now! Thank you.

The tree really looked like it was bleeding, didn’t it ?

It certainly did to me. Thanks for reading.
