Rochelle’s 100 word story challenge this week is prompted by a photo full of possibilities.
Here’s my story.
ALL IN THE MIND
The silver shimmer merges with the soft rays of the morning sun, wreathes around the half open window. Summoned to this household. Grace turns over in bed, stirred by the ripple of her curtain, a passing silver light. The pang of her loss invades her again. Dear brother, disappeared. No messages, no future happiness without him.
Downstairs, Persephone makes breakfast. Smiles at the new presence beside her. Her powers still work.
‘Anniversary of your brother’s disappearance Grace. If he were here now what would you say to him ?’
‘Luke, I forgive you with all my heart.’
Unnoticed the silver light melts and is gone.

Beautifully written and the melting at the end was cool (no pun intended)

A ghost story with what I’m hoping is a happy ending. Forgiveness has freed his spirit.

Magically told. Like Penny, I liked the choice of name

Thanks very much Neil, so glad you liked the story. I was hoping that the name Persephone would hint at the underworld as a destination of the brother.

You use lovely imagery to represent Grace’s brother. I love the very gentle way you deal with the reconciliation in Grace’s mind. And what a clever choice of name for the woman who brings about Grace’s healing – Persephone, queen of the underworld. Lovely story altogether, Francine

Thanks so much Penny for your feedback, pleased you liked the story. I think that someone can find peace through an acknowledgement, even if the recipient is not there.

Yes, I agree. Letting go of anger – forgiving people who have harmed us – is a big step towards good mental health.
