Sammi Cox’s challenge this week is to  write 99 words, inspired by the word ANATHEMA.

Here’s my take.

ANATHEMA              THE COMMUNE

I was five when we joined the commune, my mother and I. And left my dad.

You said “Sharing is better than solo, we is better than I, the commune is our mother. We are New Age adults. Our leader will take care of us, guide us.”

I ran with the kids. We fought at meal times, never enough to eat. Hardly saw my mother, cried at night, learnt to hide my feelings.

I left at sixteen. I still puzzle why this better world of peace and love left me feeling lost, unloved, unimportant. Peace and love ? I think not.
