ROOM WITH A VIEW
Here is the perfect space to write my novel, a dusty attic overlooking the rooftops of Paris.
My fingers hover the keyboard but no words come however hard I stare at the blank screen.
A change of scene ?
Café Mirabelle on the corner. I sip my wine and relax. A brawl breaks out– two men with shaven heads and tattoos shout about money. The café door rattles, a woman in a red dress storms in and scans the room furiously. Opposite a good looking man with soulful eyes tries to ignore her. Under the table a dog is eating a croissant.
Chapter one ?

I love the details of your description of the café – especially the dog eating a croissant under the table! I hope your author was carrying a notebook and pen – absolutely essential tools for catching inspiration, turns of phrase, situations…

Great comment Penny – so glad you enjoyed the story – I do agree about the notebook and the pen.

Plot is in the brain. Changing scenery may have limited effect, if any.

I would hate finding the perfect place, just to find it doesn’t work that way… maybe sometimes we shouldn’t try so hard… but I do think the bar is better than the silence.

Thanks Bjorn, I appreciate your comment. I am interested in your idea about not trying so hard – trusting your own intuition may tap into inspiration.

I’m in for more!!
September 21, 2019 at 6:32 pm
Thanks Dale – I’m glad you’re up for more ! perhaps several people could take turns to write a chapter ? Bet it would be a zany story ???
September 21, 2019 at 7:05 pm
That’s a crazy cool idea!
September 22, 2019 at 10:15 am
What do you think happens in chapter two Dale ?…..

Clever title and good writing fodder at the cafe!

I appreciate your comment – thanks.

You’re welcome.

If you can tie all those pieces together, you’ll have yourself a novel 🙂

Thanks for encouraging comment Linda, step by step to a novel sounds good.

Sometimes a change of scenery is all you need to beat writers block…. So does she run home to write down this opening to chapter 1 or try to catch the handsome man’s attention and see if she can get inspiration for chapter 2? 😉
September 21, 2019 at 3:39 pm
Thanks for your comment Trent, good question, what does the aspiring writer do ?
September 20, 2019 at 12:32 pm
Dear Francine,
She certainly chose the right place for inspiration. That chapter one roped me in. Good one.

Rochelle

Thank you Rochelle, I so pleased you were roped in by the shenanigans in the café.!

The perfect place for inspiration – back to the attic, quick, before she forgets!

Thanks Iain, appreciate your comment.

Sounds like a good start to me.

Thanks for your comment Liz.

The big blank space at the end is another nice touch: the defiant emptiness of a blank sheet of paper or word-processor window.

Thanks for your comment, much appreciated.

Delicious details. Love to hear more.

Thanks so much Violet. French cafes are a rich seam of inspiration I think, more flamboyant than British cafes perhaps ?
September 19, 2019 at 1:29 pm
Good start – can’t wait for chapter two!
Here’s my story.
September 19, 2019 at 6:50 pm
Thanks for your comment Neil, I’m glad you liked chapter one. I think it would be fun to write chapter two !
September 19, 2019 at 1:10 pm
Yep, that’s how it goes sometimes. Sitting at home, you look around and see housework that needs done, and writing goes out the door. Go out, and you can focus! Great Story! ~Shalom, Bear

Thank you for your comment- so glad you liked the story. As you say home life doesn’t always help you to write.

Plenty of writing fodder in that cafe! Not sure I’d want to visit though, sounds a bit dangerous 🙂
September 19, 2019 at 7:01 pm
I appreciate your comment Ali. Think you’re right, things could go nasty in the café, the aspiring writer might have leave rather fast.

I loved the details in the cafe, especially the two men
