GONE FISHING
‘C’mon son, eat up your bacon, your dad’s already gone to the quayside.
A lovely Cornish day, perfect for mackerel fishing. Got you gear got your
snack ? I left it on the side for you next to the bait. Yummy ! Chopped up
bits of eel and dogfish heads.’
*
‘Morning dad, I’ll do the mooring lines.’
Dad steers the boat into the deep clear water beyond the harbour, a good five mileS out to sea.
‘Right son, drop anchor and we’ll bait our rods. ‘
‘Here’s the tub ….guess what…. It’s full of cherry ice-cream…’

I rather eat ice-cream as a snack than fish bait as snack

Great comment Bjorn. I’m with you on that – bits of eel and dogfish heads no thanks !

Well, I can see them digging out the cherries and spearing them onto the hook—then the fish could go cherrypicking 🙂

Thank you Linda, what a lovely image, cherries as fish bait.

Dear Francine,
I thought to myself, surely they didn’t…alas they did. I wonder how many fish one can catch with cherry ice cream? Love it.
Shalom,
Rochelle

The joys of reusing old containers! They may not catch any fish, but they will enjoy a lovely snack!
January 26, 2020 at 1:46 pm
Thanks Dale, I’m with you about the joys of keeping old containers— proves that plastic lives for a long time !
January 26, 2020 at 5:35 pm
It does… So might as well put it to good use rather than let it pile up in landfills, I say.

Whoever fancies icecream next is going to get a nasty surpirse.
January 26, 2020 at 1:48 pm
Thanks Liz – maybe start a new trend for seafood ice cream?

Shame it wasn’t Ben and Jerry’s Phish Food flavour!
Here’s mine!
January 24, 2020 at 2:33 pm
Ha ha Keith very good. Love the spelling of Phish.
January 26, 2020 at 9:47 am
I’ve always wondered why they spell it like that, but it is very tasty.
January 23, 2020 at 6:39 pm
Let’s hope dad doesn’t carp too much about the mistake…
January 24, 2020 at 2:35 pm
Great comment Ceayr. Set me wondering how the fish got caught up with grumbling !
January 24, 2020 at 3:04 pm
Apologies, dear lady, I find bad puns well-nigh irresistible.
January 23, 2020 at 4:08 pm
Oh dear! They may have ice cream for snack, but they won’t be eating mackerel for tea. What a lovely, gentle piece of humour!
January 23, 2020 at 5:40 pm
Thanks Penny I appreciate your comment – so glad like like the story.
January 23, 2020 at 2:01 pm
Sounds like the perfect way to eat ice cream.
January 23, 2020 at 5:48 pm
Thanks Sandra, reckon you are right, on a boat off the Cornish coast on a sunny day.
January 23, 2020 at 1:13 pm
Brought big chuckles. Love it. 🙂

Indeed 🙂
January 23, 2020 at 12:54 pm
I bet the fish will go for ice cream! Especially Cornish fish – Cornish seagulls seem to love it anyway 🙂
January 24, 2020 at 2:47 pm
Of course Ali – Cornish sea gulls eat ice cream all summer long ! So why not Cornish mackerel . Great comment.
January 23, 2020 at 11:34 am
Not sure if the fish will go for ice cream, but a relaxing quiet day at sea with some ice cream to eat – sounds like quality father and son time to me! 🙂
January 24, 2020 at 2:54 pm
Thanks Iain — I agree, peaceful, and far from the crowds.
