Thanks to Rochelle for hosting Friday Fictioneers and for the intriguing photo
Courtesy of Etta James’ lyrics from her song ‘I’d rather go blind’
THE BLUES
Washed out grey sky, sad trees drop their leaves on our bench
I felt so secure wrapped around by our young love’s innocence
I trusted you, knew nothing else.
’SOMETHING TOLD ME IT WAS OVER
WHEN I SAW YOU AND HER TALKING
WHEN I SAW YOU AND THAT GIRL, WALKING OUT’
Alone cast aside in shock, Etta sang my soundtrack. I just knew that was the end of us. No need to explain, to protest, just cry. Now Etta’s song is my friend, she understands and I expect less.

Beautifully done (and fabulous song). It is amazing how a certain song brings us to a specific place or event. There are a few in my roster that get me every single time…

What makes humans special also makes them vulnerable. I feel bad that the MC’s character is diminished by another’s betrayal.

At least you know Etta will always be there when we need her. Wonderful little story.

I like how you mixed music and visual art. Break-ups are hard!

Thank you Gabriella, glad you liked the ‘blend’.

Nicely done.
For me it’s Elton John’s ‘Sad Songs (Say So Much).” I like it even when all is well because it reminds me that some of us, it is not.

Thanks Bill, I appreciate your comment, reminds me how powerful music can be for us.

I often find a song which reflects my current mood. Nice one!

When we are in love, and when we are jilted, there is always a song written just for us.
You express the pain too well.

Thank you ceayr, great comment. Such a poignant song I think.

I agree with Sandra, there always seems to be a piece of music that attaches to a memory or trauma. For me, from my youth, it’s The Korgis, Everyone’s Gotta Learn Sometime. You’ve written a very evocative and relatable piece, well done.

Thank you Michael, so glad you like the story. It still amazes me that a song can act like a hotline to a feeling, or a memory, even from our past.

Dear Francine,
The sense of loss is tangible in this piece. Well done.

There’s always a song that reflects a particular stage of your life, and the sentiment never leaves you. For me it was Francoise Hardy’s “Tous les garcons…” (Can’t do the cedilla unfortunately). 🙂

I appreciate your comment Sandra. So true about the song that will always remind you of your former self. For me it’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’ by Dire Straits.

Learning to expect less is a hard lesson. I hope there’s a turnaround and she learns to expect more. Great take on the prompt. Cheers, Lish

Thanks Iain, I think it is sad, maybe part of growing up.

In the world of boy meets girl, music always says it the right way. ..nice sad moment
