I enjoy making quirky and kind observations about other peopleand about places. I write short word sketches about certain situations that feel significant to me, I draw little cartoons. I reflect on particular t.v programmes, films and books as they grab my interest
I suppose if you only get one visit a year, Christmas is as good a time as any but what a cruel existence they’ve imposed on her. What could she have done to deserve it?
When I ran a pub in a country village we welcomed Mummers a couple of times a year, and reading your words took me right back to those fabulous events!
We’re all in something of an exile right now, aren’t we? I’d like to go through a magic portal and spend the holiday with my children.
At any rate, you stirred some emotions with this story. Well done.
I appreciate your comment Rochelle. Yes wouldn’t it be wonderful to go through a magical portal. I’ve been having conversations with friends recently about this, which brought the yearning close to home.
I wondered about the draconian new legislation imposed on Hong Kong by the Chinese mainland government – end of freedom of speech. Maybe she spoke her mind ? Decided to leave it to the reader.
Speaking for myself, I have family in Scotland whom I miss, always, but even more so in these difficult times when international travel is severely curtailed.

A sorrowful story indeed. I particularly like your reference to wassailers singing for ale.

Oh what a cruel fate indeed. It’s almost worse to be able to have that window for such a short time! Torture, indeed.
November 14, 2020 at 3:10 pm
Thanks Dale I appreciate your comment. Yes, it feels like a special sort of torture.

Sounds like a real hell, to only be able to visit once a year 🙁

A Christmas visit might be something to look forward to, but it might also make the other dimension seem even worse!
November 12, 2020 at 7:02 pm
Thanks for your comment Iain. No win for the person pressed against the glass.

Cruel, indeed.
Even those of us in voluntary exile find it difficult at times.
November 12, 2020 at 7:13 pm
I appreciate your reflection Ceayr. Interesting that even a voluntary exile can feel a pang or two.
