Making Sense of Life

Friday Fictioneers December 11th 2020 BURNT HIS BOATS

Thanks to dear Rochelle for hosting Friday Fictioneers and to Roger Bultot for the photo

   BURNT HIS BOATS

‘Best river pilot, a natural they said, an affinity with boats that no-one can teach you.

Then those, exams to be a pilot came in – huh ! Told them where they shove their exams, meant I had to leave the job. I come here every day to sit by the river.

Nancy said I was crazy – what did she know ? Stupid woman didn’t understand me or the river, I told her to push off, together for ten years, I‘d  find someone else. That person never showed up.

Evenings are the hardest time, the silence closes in, all I see is my own reflection in the window. How has it come to this ?’

  9. A great portait of a man who doesn’t know how to compromise

  10. Dear Francine,

Life is about choices, isn’t it? Sounds like he made a few unfortunate ones. Good story.
