FLIGHTS OF FANCY
‘Josh here’s where we made our deal forty years ago : see the Souk again before we die.’
‘Yes Will’
‘Marrakesh, early morning as the muezzin calls the faithful to prayer, smoke from the food stalls coils aromatically upwards into the pure blue sky..’
‘Exotic, breathing in the musky air of the Souk, caught up in the otherness of this place…’
‘taken by the magic carpet to its mystery …’
‘bowl of chickpea soup, oil, flatbread, perfect in its simplicity.’
‘Real as life now in the Lockdown.’

Full of ambience, it’s easy to imagine oneself in this place. And it’s a pleasant relief from the same old same old!

This one is making me think of Loreena McKennitt’s Marrakesh Night Market so hard. One of my favorite songs. Even though I have never been to Marrakesh, it is – mm – so dreamy like that. Thanks so much for sharing.

You’ve tempted me to look back at my pictures of Marrakesh and maybe even dust off my trusty tagine! Nice one.

Thanks Keith — I’m glad you are nudged to revisit Marrakesh, in your imagination at least.

I wonder, could you relive the souk experience in your living room?
February 14, 2021 at 1:05 pm
Good question James,, specially if you had a virtual reality headset , or a vivid imagination.
February 13, 2021 at 4:39 am
Sounds very exotic. Maybe I’ll mind-visit too!
February 14, 2021 at 1:10 pm
Thanks for your comment Ali, why not book a mind-visit now…

Thanks Jade, glad it was a pleasant trip to think about. Better than Zoom ?
February 14, 2021 at 5:27 pm
YW, way better.
February 12, 2021 at 2:44 pm
We writers have perhaps fared better than some in lockdown – I can travel as well if not better in my imagination as in real life. I’ll have that bowl of chickpea soup over here please…
February 14, 2021 at 1:28 pm
Thanks for your comment, I agree that imagination is a powerful force.
One bowl of chickpea soup coming up.

Dear Francine,
You put me in mind of my trip to Israel a couple of years ago. The sights and smells of the Cardo. You set the atmosphere in your verbal journey.
Shalom,
Rochelle

Thank Alicia, so pleased the story spoke to you.
February 11, 2021 at 5:58 pm
Don’t know when we’ll be able to travel so freely again, but it will happen eventually.
February 14, 2021 at 4:38 pm
I agree with you Iain about when we may travel freely. I have stopped thinking about iat the moment.
