Making Sense of Life

Friday Fictioneers April 3rd 2021 Easter biscuits

Easter biscuits

Grace surveys the Easter ginger biscuits she’s made, arranged on her best white plate. She likes their blue button eyes, garish scarves, the little biscuit dog.

Their candy eyes draw her back to that Easter weekend, five years ago when Amy stormed out of the house. The last straw, the unstable boyfriend Grace had forbidden. Then aching silence between them, a void filled with fear and remorse.

That ultimatum now seems ridiculous, Grace just wants her daughter back.

Tomorrow she will hug her daughter, and feel the joy of being together.

  1. Did my comment get posted here, Patience?

  2. There’s a lot of hurt in this well-written piece.
    And a ray of hope.

  3. Very uplifting and hopeful. Let’s hope they can forgive each other.

  4. Thanks for your comment James. I agree that five years is a long time. Imagined the boyfriend as a bloke who was wary of commitments, and fell by the way-side.

  5. Dear Francine,

Here’s hoping it’s a sweet reunion. Lovely writing.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

  6. An Easter reunion 🙂

  7. I hope it is a happy reunion for them.

  8. After five years, gingerbread men may not be the most suitable peace offering

  9. My goodness, five years is a long time. What happened to the boyfriend in the end?
A story that could be in any family, but perhaps not so severe as five years.
