The Reunion
Kasper paused outside the Olive Grove bistro, in Manhattan, the place Mark suggested. . He recognised the stooped man reflected in the window, framed by dark storm clouds overhead. Mark was his best buddy at school, thirty years ago.
‘I must be crazy’ he thought , ‘Mark will make me talk about my awful separation from Rachel, how I lost faith in my human rights work. Mark was there for me, he believed in my worth. Will he still ?
Mark approached Kasper, smiling broadly and said
‘Hello old friend, what news ?’

I think Kasper can be at ease, his friend seems happy to see him again. Everything else will sort itself out.

meeting an old friend brings back the good old days. it could be reassuring.

Thanks for your feedback. Guess reunions can bring all sorts of feelings can’t they.

Although there’s ambiguity about the outcome of the meeting, you give it a positive feeling. That’s mostly Mark’s broad smile, I suspect.

I appreciate your comment Penny. I think you’re right about the broad smile, I felt Kasper would need a lot of support.

I hope they can still be there for each other, to listen, support, and encourage each other. Maybe Mark has had some tough times as well. I’d also love to hear part 2….

Thanks for your feedback Jade, glad you’d like a part 2 – it inspires me to write one !

I can relate to the story you’ve penned. Worrying how we measure up in the eyes of old friends. Well done!

Nothing like the gathering of old friends… if they truly are friends, that is. Sounds like a good one, here. Great Story this week. Have a safe one!

Thanks Bear, I appreciate your comment. Guess if they haven’t met for 30 years anything is possible.

Dear Francine,
Perhaps Mark will surprise Kasper and just ‘be there’ for him. Good one.

Rochelle

Thanks Rochelle, I appreciate your comment. I met with two old school friends recently, and we found each other’s life stories intriguing.

To tell the truth or spin a lie of happy marriage and lifelong vocation…

Thanks Ali, you pose a central question. What do you reckon ?

Tell the truth but with a positive spin 🙂
