https://rochellewisoff.com/2017/11/29/1-december-2017/ Rochelle – thank you for this week’s photo prompt. Here’s my story.
photo prompt What’s His Name
The Country Cottage
” Idyllic country cottage, full of period charm, ideal location on the West coast of Ireland. A perfect setting in which to let go of life’s busyness, stroll along deserted beaches, drop into the local pub and dream .”
Well this is the holiday cottage. I’ll take a look around it… front door creaks, old kitchen, iron range, big scrubbed table. Does have period charm.
Where’s the bathroom ? Not in the main cottage – try outdoors, around the side. Is THIS the bathroom ? Forget period charm, more like the bathroom that time forgot. Quirky yes, removed from life’s busyness, yes.
I like it !

The first part doesn’t bother me but we moved to a cottage without a tub or shower when I was nine. A tin tub in the living room where it was warm was okay then but my dad put in a shower shortly afterward. A tin tub gets old in a hurry. My mother had to fill it bit by bit with the warm water. I agree with the indoor plumbing bit. Good writing, Francine. 🙂 — Suzanne

Lovely fluent writing. You choose to describe the holiday let with so many attractive, positive words, and even the primitive bathroom is only ‘the bathroom that time forgot’. The story leaves a lovely optimistic feeling in this reader.

Thank you for your feedback. Pleased to hear the mood is optimistic.

Sounds divine! I grew up mostly on a chicken farm but we did have a septic tank that never acted up. Nice story brings back memories of my youth. Good ones too! Thanks!

I’m glad the story brings back pleasant memories. Guess I was thinking about peaceful places when I wrote the story.

Sweet story – and it made me sit up since I live on the west coast of Ireland and saw something similar when I was house hunting (although we didn’t buy it). 🙂

One man’s treasure… or peace or getting-away-from-it-all…. I’ll take the indoor plumbing too, thanks!

You’re welcome. Top of my wish list for a rural retreat is warmth – don’t mind about the plumbing !

That appears to be an ideal holiday spot (minus the quirky bathroom, of course).🙂
A lovely read and so well written.
