This week’s Friday Fictioneers’ challenge is prompted by this intriguing photo. Let’s see where it takes us.
NEGATIVE CAPABILITY
Two people take their Sunday walk. They seem happy.
“Stella, see those rocks under the bridge? They’re asteroids, how weird is that ! ”
“Ray, careful, it’s pitch dark back there..”
“So unusual Stella – got to investigate……strange lights and………”
“Where have you gone ? Speak to me ….help ! Police !”
” Madame, you’ve informed me your spouse has disappeared into the – er- dark end of the underpass. Went there of his own volition. Can you explain this ?”
“Officer, he believes – believed – that earth is one of many co-existing worlds which can inter-sect…”
“What category of incident is that ? Unexplained ?”
“No officer, put A New Portal Opened “

Very nicely written indeed!

Appreciate you comment Lisa – so glad you liked the story.

Maybe she should try to follow him. You never know what’s on the other side 🙂
November 21, 2018 at 5:41 pm
Interesting idea – I didn’t think of that at all ! You’re right, who knows what’s on the other side. Thanks for your comment.

Dear Francine,
It sounds like the police took her seriously. Perhaps he can come back. Nicely done.
Shalom,
Rochelle

I appreciate your feedback Rochelle – glad you liked the story.

I like how you nailed it down to police report… I guess that portal will not be in the scroll-down menus of their reporting software… Free-text reports always get lost
November 19, 2018 at 4:38 pm
Thanks for your comment Bjorn- think you’re right about the reporting software, at the best of times !
November 17, 2018 at 2:18 pm
You – and Ray – went to a strange place this week!
November 19, 2018 at 4:38 pm
We sure did ! Thanks for your comment.

“How d’you spell portal, guv?” A policeman’s job is not an easy one.
November 19, 2018 at 4:40 pm
Thanks Jilly – no end to a policeman’s daily trials & tribulations..

She will only get away with this once, how many husbands can disappear through an unexplained portal? But then again the police might think she has lost her mind and just ignore her.
November 17, 2018 at 10:37 am
Thanks for your comment – yes, the police would start to notice a long list of missing husbands !
November 16, 2018 at 12:40 pm
Missing presumed teleported. I think the police will have a hard time believing this story 🙂
November 17, 2018 at 10:44 am
I appreciate your comment Ali – agree that the police won’t believe her.
November 16, 2018 at 12:21 pm
That’s a careless way to lose your spouse or was she secretly luring him there to get rid of him? I think the police should investigate this thoroughly
November 16, 2018 at 12:24 pm
I appreciate your comment. Suppose you never know what may happen on an ordinary Sunday ? Alien abduction perhaps ?
November 16, 2018 at 12:18 pm
Ray vanished into a parallel world operating under the bridge. Stella may find it difficult to convince the police officer.
November 16, 2018 at 12:20 pm
Thanks for your comment – yes, I think the policeman will be sceptical.
November 16, 2018 at 4:35 am
I’m with Dale, is the portal a two-way door? Some things are better left alone. 🙂 Nicely written story.
November 16, 2018 at 12:30 pm
Thank you Brenda, I appreciate your comment – glad you liked the story.
November 16, 2018 at 1:38 am
Now let us see if he can come back!!
November 16, 2018 at 12:35 pm
Ha ha !! very good Dale. What do you reckon ?
November 16, 2018 at 1:18 pm
Well… chances are probably slim… still…
November 15, 2018 at 6:17 pm
Eek! Sometimes it’s best not to investigate things too closely.

Nice one Keith ! Thanks for your comment.
November 15, 2018 at 5:27 pm
I can imagine how that dialogue continues
November 15, 2018 at 8:09 pm
Thanks for your comment – yes, that dialogue could run and run, couldn’t it ?
November 15, 2018 at 1:17 pm
I can understand the officer’s confusion, he’s only trying to do his job, and there’s no check box for ‘New Portal’. How’s that going to fit into the crime stats?! 😉
November 15, 2018 at 8:14 pm
Appreciate your comment Iain. The policemen I have met dislike ‘paperwork’ a lot, so yes this would be a step too far…
