REPORTAGE
“Hi I’m Jake Jones, reporter from the local Mercury paper. Your name is Budge ? I understand there’s been some strange occurrences in this shop ? ”
“Yes”
“Can you describe for me what’s been happening ?”
“Weird”
” Aha, say more, what kind of weird ?”
“Very weird”
“Mr Budge, can you describe these weird occurrences..”
“Errrr..”
“So did you witness these events ? I’m sure readers want to know what paranormal events took place, in this shop, just where you’re standing. Apparitions ? Poltergeists ? Were you scared out of your wits ?”
“Yup”
“Anything else you’d like to add ?”
” Nope”
“Thanks for your time.”

Good on Mr Budge. I wonder what the journalist wrote, if anything.

Fiction or commentary? Echoes of broadcast news, the movie from way back, and the public’s lower and lower expectations as to what we will accept as “news.”

Thanks for your feedback Andy. The nature of news is changing isn’t it – sometimes in a scarey way I think.

Haha! So typical of many a ‘talking head’ interview. Never ask the general public on their opinions! Made me smile

I appreciate your feedback Lynne – so glad it made you smile. I like your comment : never ask the public their opinions. My brother worked for a short while as a newspaper journalist. If the targeted interviewee didn’t appear, they were told to write : Mr X refused to comment on …

Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, but personally I’d rather hear and expert speaking on a complex subject than ill informed members of the public … like me! 🙂

Clever take. I have to wonder what exactly the reporter wrote based on the interview..

I’m sure he’ll find an ‘anonymous source’ who will can make a few quotes in his final report!

Thanks so much Dale, I appreciate your comment. Mr Budge just said less and less, and the journalist said more & more !! Fun to write – a change from more reflective pieces.
