Fire in the darkness – Rochelle’s challenge this week is prompted by this mysterious image.
FIRE IN THE DARK
Said we’d meet here each winter, to renew our friendship, our connection, our shared goal for the next year. One less brother or sister each year — lost overcome, despairing. Who is left ? Who tends this beacon fire ?
I shiver, lit up by firelight. I can see faces scowling with disowned rages, hatred for the ‘other’, like loose planets severed from any connection to kinship, crashing around our social system.
The fire is ebbing, I must feed the flames. It’s up to me now to hold onto to hope.

Oh this made me shiver… something starting out so well with hope that somehow has been more like a prison… to me it could be both family or sect.

Thanks for your feedback Bjorn — sounds like your response was on the dark and sinister side.. Maybe to do with the person being hunted ?

Yes, I really liked this as it can be read on two levels which I always love to see. Keep the hope/fire burning literally and figuratively, superb.

A story of heroic resistance, the guarding of a flame of belief in how society can be better. I love the fire metaphor, and I love the underlying message and I love the way you’ve written it.
