ROOM WITH A VIEW

Here is the perfect space to write my novel, a dusty attic overlooking the rooftops of Paris.

My fingers hover the keyboard but no words come however hard I stare at the blank screen.

A change of scene ?

Café Mirabelle on the corner. I sip my wine and relax. A brawl breaks out– two men with shaven heads and tattoos shout about money. The café door rattles, a woman in a red dress storms in and scans the room furiously. Opposite a good looking man with soulful eyes tries to ignore her. Under the table a dog is eating a croissant.

Chapter one  ?

  1. I love the details of your description of the café – especially the dog eating a croissant under the table! I hope your author was carrying a notebook and pen – absolutely essential tools for catching inspiration, turns of phrase, situations…

  2. Plot is in the brain. Changing scenery may have limited effect, if any.

  3. I would hate finding the perfect place, just to find it doesn’t work that way… maybe sometimes we shouldn’t try so hard… but I do think the bar is better than the silence.

  4. I’m in for more!!

  5. Clever title and good writing fodder at the cafe!

  6. If you can tie all those pieces together, you’ll have yourself a novel 🙂

  7. Sometimes a change of scenery is all you need to beat writers block…. So does she run home to write down this opening to chapter 1 or try to catch the handsome man’s attention and see if she can get inspiration for chapter 2? 😉

  8. Dear Francine,

She certainly chose the right place for inspiration. That chapter one roped me in. Good one.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

  9. The perfect place for inspiration – back to the attic, quick, before she forgets!

  10. Sounds like a good start to me.

  11. The big blank space at the end is another nice touch: the defiant emptiness of a blank sheet of paper or word-processor window.

  12. Delicious details. Love to hear more.

  13. Good start – can’t wait for chapter two!

    Here’s my story.

  14. Yep, that’s how it goes sometimes. Sitting at home, you look around and see housework that needs done, and writing goes out the door. Go out, and you can focus! Great Story! ~Shalom, Bear

  15. Plenty of writing fodder in that cafe! Not sure I’d want to visit though, sounds a bit dangerous 🙂

  16. I loved the details in the cafe, especially the two men
