POKE THE FROG TO JOIN

THE LAST WORD
“Jeff, did you get my cigarettes ? No ? It’s not enough I have a job, pay our rent, be here while you straighten your life out.”
“Meant to Trish, not feeling so good, too many the beers last night.”
”Grinds me down” he thought “can’t stand her chainsaw voice, who is she to lecture me. Just need a little help to get back on my feet. Tomorrow I will look for work, stop drinking.”
“OK Trish, I’m going for your cigarettes “.
I’ll stay out, sleep rough, see how you like that Trish.

A demanding person this Trish. Why is Jeff tolerating her?

Thanks for your comment Abhijit. My sense is that some people are helpers and others are victim like, and they attract each other, unhappily.

I would say that Trish will be better off without that parasite. Somehow I saw Andy Capp in this.

I appreciate your comment Bjorn. I do wonder sometimes about what the ‘pay-off’ in a relationship is.

Dear Francine,
Chainsaw voice is quite the description, but it sounds like Jeff is the excess baggage. Good one.

Jeff needs some help and a wake up call, I’m not sure Trish is the one to do it for him.

Well done, Francine.
You just need a comma: Meant to, Trish – I was reading it and wasn’t sure what you meant. Took me two readings!
And if I were Trish, I wouldn’t care if he slept rough… looks like he needs to face reality.

I appreciate your comment Dale. Perhaps Trish’s comments will be enough to end their relationship ?

Some people are so hard to help. Nicely observed and described – I particularly liked “chainsaw voice”.

The self-pitying tone and the destrutcive self-delusion are perfectly observed
