‘You are ?’
‘plot 49 South. And you ? plot 23 North’
‘This is off the record, we never met up, you never said anything. Agreed?’
She nods silently. The dark evening shrouds the two figures, smudging their silhouettes into the penumbra.
‘To business. What are you offering ?’
‘The exact date and time of the Queen of the Andes’ florescence. And you ?’
‘Three fiddleheads in good condition’.
‘How can I trust you ?’ he asks impatiently.
‘You have to trust me, if you want the tip off.’
‘OK, might see you around the allotments some time.’

I had to scan through the comments to help me with this one, finally found my answer in plot gardening and swapping. The bright light went on 🙂

Let’s put surveillance on the allotments, just to find out what’s going on. A mystery indeed.

Good idea – catch the cabbage theives red handed !

Sounds like business as usual, but with futuristic commodities. Time coordinate bartering is a creative spin on it.
March 28, 2021 at 7:26 pm
I appreciate your comment Jade. Time coordinate bartering sounds interesting.

You’re welcome, WWM.
March 26, 2021 at 2:36 pm
Interesting. I feel like there is more to this story.
March 28, 2021 at 7:36 pm
Thanks for your comment. Guess the sub-culture of allotment gardeners is the backdrop of this story, that is very competitive gardeners.

Dear Francine,
It sounds like some shady dealings. Love the crisp dialogue you used to tell the story.
Shalom,
Rochelle

Thanks for your comment Rochelle, Glad you liked the dialogue.

Thanks for your comment Sandra. I realise that the references were too obscure. An orchid which blooms once every 100 years and an Asian vegetable with tendrils.
March 26, 2021 at 5:55 am
A mysterious meeting with even more mysterious things to trade 🙂
March 26, 2021 at 10:10 am
Thanks for your comment Ali. Think I made the commodities too obscure- an orchid that flowers once every 100 years & an Asian vegetable with tendrils.
March 25, 2021 at 7:35 pm
I love the items up for the exchange. Such a fun write. Thank you.
March 26, 2021 at 10:17 am
So pleased you liked the story. I enjoyed choosing the exchange items.
March 25, 2021 at 6:35 pm
There are dealings of all sorts, aren’t there? Fun one, Francine.
March 26, 2021 at 10:33 am
Thanks for your comment Dale. Guess that almost anything can be a commodity, if there are ‘customers’ for it.
March 26, 2021 at 11:51 am
Yeah. (un)fortunately…
March 25, 2021 at 3:56 pm
I’m not sure what they are dealing in, but I do like a bit of allotment politics! 🙂
March 26, 2021 at 10:40 am
Thanks Iain, glad you liked the allotment politics ! The allotments I have come across are beset with politics. Realise I was being too obscure – the commodities are an orchid that blooms once every 100 years and an Asian vegetable with tendrils.
March 26, 2021 at 3:57 pm
Ah, I guessed it was something like that 🙂
March 25, 2021 at 3:47 pm
All sorts of deals are done at allotments, but usually involving vegetables! Nic one.
My story!
March 26, 2021 at 10:42 am
Thanks for your comment Keith. I agree about the vegetable deals !
March 25, 2021 at 2:21 pm
I loved the atmosphere and whimsy of this
March 26, 2021 at 10:49 am
Thanks Neil, I’m glad you like the story.
March 25, 2021 at 1:45 pm
I’m not entirely sure whether they’ve struck a deal, but it does seem it will be a deal worth further examination by both parties.
March 26, 2021 at 11:02 am
Thanks for your comment Sandra. I realise I was being too obscure. An orchid which blossoms ever 100 years and an Asian vegetable with tendrils.
