Joy took in the destruction all around her. Storm thrashed, broken timber, murky lake water that lapped the sodden decking and soaked her pale summer sandals.

James said ‘You looked devastated, this was our heaven on earth.’

Waves of grief threatened to overwhelm her. ‘This was our refuge from the firm, automata working in pods’ she said.

They knew about Gaia – earth as a huge single entity. The blue planet would absorb the relentless damage inflicted by humans til bang :  no more life on earth, Gaia would  continue on her own.
